The town is formerly called Boang in the old days. The massive baroque church of Dingle made of limestone is the most captivating landmark at Dingle Plaza. Fr. Juan Praile started the construction in 1876 and was finished in 1886 under the supervision of Fr. Rafael Murillo and Fr. Mequiades Arizmendi

This 700-capacity church got its materials from sand and stones taken from Mt. Bulabog and Mt. Tinucuan. The lumber (morawon) were from Mt. Bulabog and Mt. Manyakiya. The natives, on the other hand, quarried the limestones from Bulabog-Putian Mountains.

A noticeable absence of one of the bell towers differs this church from that of its neighboring town of Calinog, Lambunao and Dueñas. The facade is similar portraying a single affair with two levels. The church welcomes its parishioners with a 9-step ascending stairway towards the main entrance of the structure.

On the first story of the facade is a semi-circular statued niches that flanked the both sides of the segmented main door. The next story consists of 3 identical semi-circular windows that topped the entrance and niches. The 3rd story presents a simple built architrave that supports the second level. The pediment of moderately indulating curves is put to life by a 2 semi-circular statue niche.

It was said that during the Japanese occupation, 14 civilians were massacred right at its backyard.

Location : Dingle, Iloilo

Feast Day : June 24
